چکیده

Abstract This study aims to characterize changes in compound extremes of rainfall and temperature over West Africa. For this purpose, data from CHIRPS observations, the ERA5 reanalysis, twenty-four (24) climate models involved CMIP5 Project were analyzed. First, evaluated terms their capacity simulate summer mean climatology during historical period (1981–2005), secondly, examined under RCP8.5 emission scenario between near future (2031–2055) far (2071–2095) relative period. Despite presence some biases, ensemble well reproduces patterns Africa at seasonal intraseasonal timescales. The analysis with CHIRPS/ERA5 dataset shows a strong occurrence dry/warm mode northern Sahel June-July-August-September (JJAS; main rainy season) Guinean region February-March-April-May season (FMAM; first season). These occurrences are due weak highly frequent precipitation recorded these zones. wet/warm is JJAS Sudanian zone (transition area regions), while FMAM, its maximum region. also that will increase whole (western central) futures decrease suggests be prone drought intensified by warmer temperatures calls for action adaptation strategies mitigate risks on rain-fed agriculture, energy, animals human health.

Investigation of the atmospheric circulation anomalies associated with extreme rainfall events over the Coastal West Africa

This study investigates the atmospheric circulation associated with extreme rainfall events over the coastal West Africa. The rainfall data of this study were obtained from the Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC), spanning from 1981 to 2010. The atmospheric datasets were also obtained from the ERA-Interim reanalysis. The study employed the Z-Index to categorize dry and wet years into...

changes in rainfall extremes in ontario

there is a general consensus that climate change has impact on the intensity and frequency of rainfall events. however, very little research is available about the changes in short term rainfall extremes. the focus of this paper has been on the change in annual and monthly rainfall extremes in ontario. the results indicate a greater variability (increase and decrease) among stations for shorter...

Non‐stationary return levels of CMIP5 multi‐model temperature extremes

During the period 1979–1992, on average nearly 400 people each year were killed in the United States by excessive heat (NOAA 1995; Kilbourne 1997). In fact, in this period over the United States, excessive heat accounted for more reported deaths annually than hurricanes, floods, tornadoes, and lightning combined (NOAA 1995). Furthermore, agriculture products such as wheat, rice, corn and maize ...

The Rainfall Annual Cycle Bias over East Africa in CMIP5 Coupled Climate Models

East Africa has two rainy seasons: the long rains [March–May (MAM)] and the short rains [October– December (OND)]. Most CMIP3/5 coupled models overestimate the short rains while underestimating the long rains. In this study, the East African rainfall bias is investigated by comparing the coupled historical simulations from CMIP5 to the corresponding SST-forced AMIP simulations. Much of the inve...

Multidecadal Evaluation of WRF Downscaling Capabilities over Western Australia in Simulating Rainfall and Temperature Extremes

The authors evaluate a 30-yr (1981–2010) Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) Model regional climate simulation over the southwest of Western Australia (SWWA), a region with a Mediterranean climate, using ERA-Interim boundary conditions. The analysis assesses the spatial and temporal characteristics of climate extremes, using a selection of climate indices, with an emphasis on metrics that are r...
